Now that you've set up your wallet, we'll walk you through how to fund it with ETH or Base.
Buy ETH from a cryptocurrency exchange
ETH can be bought from a cryptocurrency exchange, like Coinbase, and sent directly to your wallet.
-
Head to coinbase.com and click “Get Started” to set up your account.
-
Set up your account and verify your identity.
-
Connect a debit card or bank account to authorize your account.
-
Click “Buy / Sell,” and select “Ethereum.” Click “Preview Buy” to confirm your order and then select “Buy Now” to complete the purchase of ETH. To learn more about how to buy ETH from Coinbase, visit their Help Center
-
After you’ve purchased ETH on an exchange, you can send it to your wallet using your wallet’s public address.
-
Navigate to your wallet by opening up the MetaMask browser extension.
-
Click on “Account” to copy your Ethereum address. Your Ethereum address is a 42-character code that is publicly viewable—similar to a bank account number—that will let you transfer and receive crypto from anyone, anywhere in the world.
-
From the Coinbase site, select “Portfolio” and find “Ethereum”.
-
Click “Send” and paste in your Ethereum wallet address from MetaMask in the “To” field.
-
Check that you’ve pasted in the correct wallet address. If you send crypto to the wrong address you will not be able to get it back.
-
Click “Continue” then “Confirm” to send your ETH. The ETH will transfer within minutes.
Buy ETH directly from MetaMask using Wyre or Transak
There are three buttons under your ETH balance in MetaMask: “Buy”, “Send”, and “Swap”.
-
Click “Buy” to be redirected to Wyre or Transak, which allow you to use a debit card or bank transfer to deposit ETH into your MetaMask wallet.
-
View the complete list of geographic restrictions for Wyre and Transak before proceeding.
Bridging ETH to Base
Once you've purchased ETH from an exchange, you can bridge in Base to begin transacting on L2. Learn more about L2.
