How to set up a wallet

Foundation is ushering in a new era of the internet that’s decentralized and community-driven, welcome to web3. We’ll connect you to a revolutionary global network where your creativity is valued - and it all starts with setting up your wallet and getting some ETH.

Before we get started, let's cover some important terms:

• Wallet: Your wallet is your point of access to the expansive ecosystem of web3. It’s digital, it connects to your web browser, and it holds all of your NFTs and cryptocurrency. You’ll need to connect your wallet to Foundation to participate in our marketplace - Foundation will not have access to your wallet or its contents. Foundation currently supports MetaMask, Coinbase, and wallets supported by WalletConnect.
  
  
• Ether (ETH): ETH is the native currency used for all transactions on the Ethereum network. It’s the currency currently used on Foundation to buy and sell NFTs.
  

Next, we’ll show you how to set up your wallet.

Set up a MetaMask wallet

Getting started is easy:

1. Download and install the MetaMask browser extension from MetaMask.
   
2. Select “Create a Wallet.”
   
3. Create a username and password.
   
4. Record your uniquely assigned Secret Recovery Phrase. If you lose this series of words or forget what order they’re in, you will lose access to your wallet, and it will be unrecoverable. We recommend writing the phrase on a piece of paper and storing it in a memorable, safe, and secure place.
5. The next step will ask you to confirm the phrase by placing all of the words in the assigned order.
   
6. MetaMask should now be set up and will appear in your browser extensions.
   
7. If you have any trouble, visit MetaMask Support.
   

How to add Base Network to Metamask

1. Open your Metamask Wallet extension.
2. Click on the upper-left-hand corner.
3. In the pop-up, click Add network.
4. In the new tab, scroll until you see Base Mainnet.
5. Click Add and approve in the pop-up.
6. If you do not see these options, you can manually add Base Mainnet to your wallet network by following the directions here.

Set up a Coinbase wallet

The steps are very similar:

1. Download and install the Coinbase Wallet browser extension from Coinbase.
   
2. Select “Create a new wallet.”
   
3. Record your uniquely assigned Secret Recovery Phrase. If you lose this series of words or forget what order they’re in, you will lose access to your wallet, and it will be unrecoverable. We recommend writing the phrase on a piece of paper and storing it in a memorable, safe, and secure place.
4. The next step will ask you to confirm the phrase by selecting the first and last words of the phrase respectively.
5. Next, create a username and password.
   
6. Coinbase Wallet should now be set up and will appear in your browser extensions.
   
7. If you have any trouble, visit Coinbase Support.

Set up a Foundation profile with WalletConnect

Alternatively, you can use a wallet supported by WalletConnect - a few great options are Rainbow Wallet, Trust Wallet, and imToken. The setup process for each wallet is similar, you'll just want to choose the wallet that best suits your needs.
