How to set up a wallet

Foundation is ushering in a new era of the internet that’s decentralized and community-driven—welcome to web3. We’ll connect you to a revolutionary global network where your creativity is valued—and it all starts with setting up your wallet and getting some ETH.

Before we get started, let's cover some important terms:

  • Wallet: Your wallet is your point of access to the expansive ecosystem of web3. It’s portable, it connects to your web browser, and it holds all of your NFTs and cryptocurrency. You’ll need to connect your wallet to Foundation to participate in our marketplace—although Foundation won’t have access to your wallet, and we can’t control it. Foundation currently supports MetaMask and wallets supported by WalletConnect.

  • Ether (ETH): ETH is the native currency used for all transactions on the Ethereum network. It’s the currency currently used on Foundation to buy and sell NFTs

Next, we’ll show you how to set up your wallet and get ETH.

Set up a MetaMask wallet

Your wallet is essential for managing your digital assets: it’s your gateway to Foundation.

Getting started is easy:

  1. Download and install the MetaMask browser extension from the MetaMask website.

  2. Select “Create a Wallet.”

  3. Create a username and password.

  4. Record your uniquely assigned Secret Recovery Phrase. If you lose this series of words or forget what order they’re in, you will lose access to your wallet, and it will be unrecoverable. We recommend writing the phrase on a piece of paper and storing it in a memorable, safe, and secure spot.

  5. The next step will ask you to confirm the phrase by placing all of the words in the assigned order.

  6. MetaMask should now be set up and will appear in your browser extensions.

  7. If you have any trouble, visit MetaMask Support.

Set up your account with WalletConnect

Alternatively, you can use a wallet that has support for WalletConnect - a few great options are Rainbow Wallet, Trust Wallet, and imToken. The setup process for each wallet is similar, so you'll want to choose the wallet that best suits your needs.

Learn more about WalletConnect and check out their full list of supported wallets for more options.

As of May 2022, you can now also connect to Foundation using Coinbase Wallet.
